Memphis 901 FC Debut at AutoZone Park a Raging Success

8,062 fans see Memphis fall to Tampa Bay 1-0 in Exciting Opener

March 10, 2019 - 10:29 am

Forget that Memphis 901 FC dropped a 1-0 match to the Tampa Bay Rowdies inside AutoZone Park Saturday evening. This was a party as professional soccer returned to Memphis. 8,062 people (a sell-out for AutoZone's current soccer configuration) seemingly enjoyed the party with drums going, chants being yelled, beer flowing, and the new club from Memphis holding it's own on the pitch.

In the match itself Tampa Bay came through with a penalty kick goal in the fourth minute from Midfielder Wes Charpie that  ultimately decided it as Memphis couldn't equalize.

But that wasn't the most important thing. It was a successful, sold-out night at AutoZone Park for President Craig Unger and the Memphis 901 FC club that will be remembered.

Next Memphis 901 FC Match: Saturday, March 16th, vs. Loudoun United FC at AutoZone Park (coverage on CW30/ESPN+)
