The PGA Tour announced Darrell Smith as Executive Director of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. The inaugural WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational will reportedly be played July 22nd-July 28, 2019.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tournament officials announced today that Darrell Smith, currently the Tournament Director of the FedEx St. Jude Classic, will become the Executive Director of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational when the Memphis-based PGA TOUR stop transitions into a World Golf Championships event in 2019. Smith, who has been involved with the FedEx St. Jude Classic since 2005, will continue to oversee operations, title sponsor relations, sales and marketing, volunteer recruitment, and community relations for the event in 2019 as Memphis becomes the host of one of four World Golf Championships events, which annually host the best fields in golf.

Erin Mazurek Stone has been announced as the Tournament Director and will focus on sales and marketing while supporting Smith in oversight of the event. Mazurek Stone joined the PGA TOUR staff in December of 2017 as part of the Executive Director Initiative and worked as part of the tournament teams for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and THE PLAYERS Championship since joining the TOUR.

“We are thrilled to have Darrell and Erin, two Memphis residents, onboard to bring this exciting new chapter of professional golf to Memphis,” said Matt Rapp, Senior Vice President of Championship Management at the PGA TOUR. “Darrell’s experience and success as Tournament Director of the FedEx St. Jude Classic, combined with his connections and relationships with FedEx, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the local market, provide the perfect fit to help us lead a global event with a Memphis flair. Erin has a proven track record of driving revenue throughout her career and will help Darrell in elevating the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational to new heights as a World Golf Championships event.”

Smith first joined the FedEx St. Jude Classic in 2005 and then was hired on full-time, working for four years as the Operation Coordinator responsible for on-site production of the event before transitioning to the AT&T Byron Nelson for one year as their Director of Operations. He returned to Memphis as the Tournament Manager of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in 2011 and was promoted to Tournament Director in November of 2015.
Smith was born in Bartlett, Tennessee, grew up in Memphis and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Education. He and his wife, Libby, have two children, Holston, 3, and Millie, 1.

Mazurek Stone has experience in the Memphis area as well as the Tournament Director of the Memphis Open, an ATP World Tour Event for three years (2014-2017). Prior to becoming the first female Tournament Director in ATP North Americas history, she spent 5.5 years with the Detroit Red Wings as the Director of Private Event Sales and 6.5 years as the Tournament Director at the Dow Corning Tennis Classic. She grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Northwood University with a degree in Business Administration. Her and her husband, Greg, reside in Memphis.

The PGA TOUR will continue to partner with Youth Programs, Inc., who have served as the host of the Memphis PGA TOUR stop since 1970. In addition to Smith and Stone transitioning to their new roles overseeing the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, the current staff of the FedEx St. Jude Classic transition into working on the new WGC event and will remain in their current roles.

“Darrell personifies the essence of a true professional in his role as the newly appointed Executive Director of the FedEx St. Jude Invitational,” said Jack Sammons, General Chairman of the FedEx St. Jude Classic. “I have watched Darrell mature in his role leading our 1800 volunteers and our talented staff as we collectively endeavor to continually enhance this important community asset known as the FedEx St. Jude. I’m very proud of Darrell and have a high degree of confidence of his continued success.”

The PGA TOUR, on behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours, announced in April that Memphis’ hometown event will take on a new identity as the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, beginning with the 2018-19 PGA TOUR Season. FedEx is assuming title sponsorship of the event currently known as the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which has been staged in Akron, Ohio, since 1999.
The World Golf Championships consistently attract the most elite and global fields of the year, with 45-50 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking teeing it up in the series of four annual events.

The PGA TOUR has held a tournament in Memphis every year since 1958 with Colonial Country Club playing host until the event moved permanently to TPC Southwind in 1989. FedEx first became the title sponsor in 1986 and has supported the tournament ever since. FedEx has been involved with the FedEx St. Jude Classic for more than 30 years and has helped raise more than $38 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The WGC-FedEx St. Jude will be one of four World Golf Championships events on the 2018-19 PGA TOUR schedule sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours. The other World Golf Championships are the Mexico Championship (Mexico City, Mexico), the Dell Technologies Match Play (Austin, Texas) and the HSBC Champions (Shanghai, China). The World Golf Championships collectively have generated more than $60 million for global charities since 1999.

Tickets information to the 2019 World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude will become available following the conclusion of the 2018 FedEx St. Jude Classic. For more information on the 2019 WGC-FedEx St. Jude, please visit
