ESPN 790’S FANTASY KICKOFF QUICK HITTER

A quarter of the fantasy football season is down with Week 4 just wrapping up, and if you’re 0-4, this is the week you can get your team back on track with some waiver pickups, as well as the bye weeks starting.

Before we get to our picks, let’s quickly go over Week 4, because that was brutal for injuries.  Two rookies who looked strong so far this season in Dalvin Cook and Chris Carson are now done for the season.  Another young player with a bright future, Derek Carr, will be out for at least a couple of weeks, if not more.  Luckily for owners of Marcus Mariota, Julio Jones, and Ty Montgomery, the news isn’t as bad, as it looks like none of them are going to miss games.

Now, let’s get to the picks

5 Pickups

Ben

1. RB Alvin Kamara (Saints) - This should be a no-brainer, but the fact he is still left on the waiver wire in more than half the leagues on both Yahoo! And ESPN, makes me think some folks aren’t ready to buy in.  Sure it’s a three man backfield in New Orleans, but Kamara is the option in the pass game and he will see plenty of targets.  He is the perfect Flex/bye week replacement.

2. RB Wayne Gallman (Giants) - None of the other options are any good.

3. RB Latavius Murray (Vikings) - I know this is going out on a limb, but I think Murray will see the bulk of the carries in Minnesota now that Cook is out for the season.  Jerick McKinnon is still there, but will be used more with the pass.  If you have to choose, I’d go Murray.

4. QB Deshaun Watson (Texans) - This is your last chance to get him.

5. WR Cooper Kupp (Rams) - Seems to be finding his rapport with Jared Goff, and this Rams offense looks like the real deal.  Kupp has moved from being a pickup in PPR only leagues to a pickup in all leagues.

Bennett

1. RB Andre Ellington (Cardinals) - 145 receiving yds in the past 2 weeks.  He's the only effective RB for the Cardinals right now and looks like he could be a solid PPR play going forward.

2. WR Devin Funchess (Panthers) - He's going to have his off weeks but he's had 58 or more receiving yds the past 3 weeks and found the endzone twice this week. He's clearly going to be heavily involved in this offense going forward especially with #1 CBs covering Kelvin Benjamin every week.

3. WR Will Fuller (Texans) - He scores twice in his debut coming back from injury. Worth an add.

4. RB Wayne Gallman (Giants) -  NYG running backs have been terrible this yr.  Gallman led them in touches this wk for 42 rushing yds.  He was a 4th Rd pick this year so there's some vested interest.  I could see him eventually leading this backfield in the next few games.

5. QB Deshaun Watson (Texans) - Likely not available anymore in your league but go get him immediately if he is.  His stock is skyrocketing.

Drop 'Em

Ben - RB Isaiah Crowell (Browns) & QB Derek Carr (Raiders) - Crowell has been a huge disappointment.  He was talked up to be a Top 10 RB this year and has looked anything but the part.  Plus, with a rookie QB in Kizer, he's not going to break out of his slump anytime soon.  Duke Johnson Jr. is the RB to own in Cleveland.  I hate to say it, but Carr is expendable now with bye weeks coming up.  There are plenty of QBs that can give you decent production, Carr isn't one of them since he is injured.

Bennett - TE Eric Ebron (Lions) & RB Terrence West (Ravens) - Can't trust that Ebron will be consistent at this point, Ebron is more of a streaming TE at this point, pretty much like every other TE except for maybe 5 or 6 of them.  West has 0 points the past 2 weeks.  Emergence of Alex Collins plus Buck Allen being guaranteed touches makes him not worth a roster spot.

Patience Will Pay Off

Ben - RB Doug Martin (Bucs) - Martin finally returns from his suspension on Thursday night against the Patriots.  I know owners will want to unleash him since they've been hanging onto him this long.  Just be prepared, he may not pay off in the first game, but will be well worth it the rest of the season.

Bennett - RB Marshawn Lynch (Raiders) - Been a bad few weeks.  I think they lean on him this week with Carr out and you get a solid performance.

Streaming Defense of the Week

Bennett - Ravens (at Raiders)

Ben - Jets (at Browns)
