Did the Grizzlies win the Trades? Maybe So. 40 from Conley Combined with Newcomers Equals Grizz Win

AUDIO/LISTEN Final: Memphis 120 Trail Blazers 111 Next Game: Friday, Grizzlies vs. Jazz at 7 p.m. on 92.9 FM ESPN

The Memphis Grizzlies used a career high 40-point night from star point guard Mike Conley to beat the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday night at FedExForum 120-111. It was a "heads up" victory for Memphis against a mostly healthy Portland squad that will make the playoffs. This was also a Portland team looking for wins for playoff positioning. So it was a bittersweet night at FedExForum.  And after winning on the road in Dallas, and after coming close to a win in Oklahoma City, the Grizzlies may actually be on the right side of the recent trades made at the deadline.

The Avery Bradley-Mike Conley-Delon Wright lineup was certainly working Monday night. Wright had a career night with 25 points in 26 minutes of action. Avery Bradley had 14 points. Jonas Valanciunas scored 17 points in 21 minutes. But it was Conley's 40-piece that made the difference. After the win JB Bickerstaff expressed his admiration for Conley.  Bickerstaff said, "He (Mike Conley) was in attack mode and he was getting the calls (foul calls) he deserves to get."

Joakim Noah had another plus night (+14) with 9 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes of action.  About Noah, Bickerstaff said, "He's intelligent. He's unselfish. There's no overlooking what he means to the young guys. He's always in their ear trying to help them. I'd be lying to you if I told you we thought he'd be this good."

Overall, it was a good night for the Grizzlies front office, seeing their new pieces being productive. It was a career night for Mike Conley, with his career-high 40 points. And for JB Bickerstaff it was a solid evening coming back from down 33-20 after the first quarter against Portland to close the second quarter down by just two points, eventually pulling out the win.
